The Vendée Globe is the pinnacle of modern day ocean racing. The race is simple: around the world solo, non-stop and without assistance. Founded by Philippe Jeantot in 1989, since 1992 it has taken place every four years. It is named after the Département of Vendée, in France, where the race starts and ends. The Vendée Globe is considered an extreme quest of individual endurance and the ultimate test in ocean racing. To this day, less than 100 people have completed this feat, each and every one becoming legend in the process.
